Pop. of Alness\nproper, about 202 ; of Alness Bridge, 942.\nThe parish measures about 20 miles in\nlength, and about 5 miles in mean breadth.\nReal property in 1880-81, 8531. Pop.1033.\nThe tract adjacent to the firth is mostly\nflat, arable, and embellished ; but the other\nparts are hilly or mountainous, and exten-\nsively barren. Novar House, in the lower\npart, is a fine feature ; and 2 lakes and Ault-\ngrande burn richly diversify the uplands.\nThere are 3 schools for 191 scholars, and 2 of\nthem and an enlargement for 131 are new.",
