Ardchattan\nPriory, on Loch Etive, 4 miles north-west\nof Taynuilt, was founded in 1231, is notable\nfor a national council held in it by Robert\nBruce, had a cruciform church with central\ntower, and has left some interesting re-\nmains. Ardchattan House, originally the\nprior's residence, is now a modernized\nmassive mansion. Other seats are Loch-\nnell, Barcaldine, Inverawe, and Drimvuick,\nand a notable antiquity is the alleged vestige\nof the Dalriadan city Berigonium. The\nchurches are 2 Established and 2 Free,\nand the public schools are 4, with about\n279 scholars.",
